In an open letter to patrons on Thursday, March 21, Opera Idaho's general director Stacey Trenteseaux announced the cancellation of the company's final performances of the season, "Cruzar la Cara de la Luna." The production was scheduled to take place April 18, 19 and 21 at a number of venue locations across Idaho, including Burley, Boise and Caldwell.
After thanking patrons for their support, Trenteseaux cited recent change within the company for the cancellations, including her new appointment as general director.
"As we continue to navigate this transition in our operatic history together, we’ve had to reevaluate some of our current programming for the remainder of 2023-2024 season," she wrote in an email. "In order to ensure we can deliver the highest artistic experience to our patrons, we have decided to postpone our much-anticipated production of 'Cruzar la Cara de la Luna.'"
Trenteseaux did not pull the curtain on the production entirely, though.Â
"This is a very specialized and culturally important work and we’re looking forward to bringing the piece to Idaho audiences in a future season," she wrote, adding: "I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."
Trenteseaux said while there will be no more performances at the Egyptian Theater this year, there are still four upcoming spring opera experiences patrons can attend.
